Sports & Deep Tissue Massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit people who take part in regular physical activity (Sport, Manual work ect). Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a form of connective tissue that lines and holds the other soft tissues together).
Sports massage plays a huge part in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
At Wantage Massage and Injury Clinic we provide a range of techniques in each treatment session to benefit your body and help release toxins and tension from the muscles. The massage includes Soft Tissue Releasing Techniques and Muscle Energy Techniques.
Anyone can benefit from a Sports & Deep Tissue massage however this kind of treatment is not always the most comfortable of treatment, we refer to it as a positive pain, and you should expect the pressure to be about a 7 out of 10 on the pain scale.
We recommend this treatment to professional athletes regularly competing, people that may be in training to achieve a short term goal such as running a marathon, triathalon or cycling challenge; the massage will keep your body in peak performance and prevent injury during this intense time of training. With regular massage sessions, the body responds quicker, releasing tension more easily and ensures your body is operating at it's best.
If you are looking to enhance your physical training programme with the addition of a regular sports or deep tissue massage please get in touch for an appointment.
