The knee is one of the most vulnerable joints in the body; as a result knee injuries are very common. Knee pain can come from a sudden injury or can progressively build up over a long time. Either way the key to successful treatment lies in accurate diagnosis and treatment based on the best available evidence, our team are specialist in knee care and treatment, contact us with your symptoms and questions.
If your knee is swollen you should arrange an appointment to be assessed. It is important to establish exactly what is causing pain in your knee in order to treat it correctly in the early stages. If your knee is locking (where you can’t move it) or giving way (buckling underneath you) you will need to be assessed and may need an orthopaedic referral which we can assist in. Sudden knee pain, usually the result of a specific incident, can be due to:
Sprain/strain or tear of ligament (Collateral or Cruciate)
Cartilage injury/ Meniscus tear
Subluxation/dislocation of kneecap
If your knee has started hurting for no reason it may be that local structures around your knee are weak or stiff causing an imbalance in the muscles resulting in discomfort. It is very common for remote areas to cause knee pain, for example dropped arches at the foot or weakness in your buttock muscles can create bio-mechanical problems that can lead to pain at the knee. These types of problems can be picked up on assessment and are often very easy to fix.
Other knee problems we see in the clinic include:
Chantelle - "After 18 months of chronic back/neck pain following a car crash, I had tried all types of treatments/painkillers from different practitioners/Doctors and was struggling to ever see myself being pain free!
Hayden’s page popped up on my Facebook Newsfeed and after reading his clients (very) positive reviews I decided to book in with him. After a 20 minute chat with Hayden he diagnosed what he thought was wrong with me and gave me some treatment to ease the pain.... A week after my visit to Hayden I had one of my many hospital appointments and my consultant completely agreed with everything Hayden had said and now I now have my operation booked in for next week!"
